Four Winds Celtic Music Performers

Shauna Burns - Shauna's ethereal vocals and beautiful piano developed while growing up in Miami, Florida. Inspired by her mother's love for the piano, her songwriting thrived and when she headed west for college her music met cheers and enthusiastic recognition. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Anthropology at the University of Utah, Shauna spent a year in Europe preparing her debut album. Released under Red Rock Music in 2005 Every Thought was the foothold that lifted this talented pianist and singer to critical acclaim. 'Beautiful cascading piano [and] ethereal vocals… a new fangled fusion that will ignite a spark that will be hard to replicate. Perfect.' States Smother.net. Shauna's songwriting extension to Every Thought was her 2006 follow up EP release entitled, Desert Tune.  Shauna has embarked on multiple vigorous tours since 2006 with over 75 shows and appearances stretching from coast to coast in the U.S. and the U.K. Shauna will hit the road again with her Wandering Planets Tour in 2009.  'Around You', the first single from The Moon and the Fire Circle, reached number 7 on the FMQB AC Chart, was one of WCH Radio's 'Top Songs for 2008' and reached number 1 on 'Song Vault Radio'. The Moon and the Fire Circle was selected 'Best of 2008' by Collected Sounds and The Promise Live. Radio Crystal Blue also chose Shauna as one of the 'Top Recording Artists of the Year 2008'.  Shauna's debut CD, Every Thought was selected as one of the Top CD's of 2005 by Collected Sounds and the single, 'Pink Girl', was chosen as the number 1 single from the MAACP show. The album was chosen for 'Best of the Batch' from the Music Industry News Network and featured on TowerPod.com, Billboard, VH1, Artist Direct, AOL Music, Fox TV and countless others.

5 Second Rule5 Second Rule is the newest Acoustic/Celtic band in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Their core backgrounds in traditional Irish music set the foundation for inventive excursions into jazz, bluegrass, world music and other realms.  David Lovrien (Irish whistles, keyboards, sax) begin playing Irish music after joining the band Gallus in 2004 and has been picking up tunes ever since.  He also plays saxophone with the Dallas Wind Symphony and local rock band The Fins.   David performs regularly with the Trinity Hall Session Players and has been a staff member at the annual O’Flaherty Irish Music Camp since 2006.  Michelle Feldman has over 20 years of Irish fiddling experience.  Her driving style powers many dance sets, although she is equally at home adding a wistful phrase to a ballad or spicing up a bluegrass tune.  Michelle is also a songwriter and has performed with many groups in the past, including Gallus.  Guitarist Paul Dryer is no stranger to diverse music styles. Over the past 40 years, Paul has played in jazz, bluegrass, rock and gospel bands, and numerous vocal groups.  He also plays mandolin, whistle and Irish flute. Paul’s backup vocals, creative jazz-inspired guitar accompaniment and melodic style add a distinctive richness to 5 Second Rule’s repertoire.  Percussionist Rick Holt started his 40-year drumming career at an early age and was exposed to a wide variety of musical styles and has performed in bands as a freelance percussionist in rock, jazz, blues, country and classical performances.  He is also an instructor at the annual O’Flaherty Irish Music Youth Camp. Rick brings a unique and diverse musical style, utilizing the African djembe, Celtic bodhran, and other wonderful percussion instruments.

Tim Glennon -  Born and raised on New York’s Long Island, Tim is the eighth child of twelve and the son of a first generation Irish New York City Policeman.  Tim began singing and playing piano at the age of 5 for family and relatives.  In high school, Tim started singing with his oldest brother Jack at “Irish Affairs.”  The Glennon Brothers were primarily influenced by the likes of the Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem, and The Irish Rovers.  While at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, Tim honed his craft as a solo artist, playing at the Student Union while pursuing his degree in Theatre Arts.  After graduation from college, marriage, and four children, Tim resumed his solo act playing and singing in Irish establishments in the Northeast.  In 1999 he moved to Shreveport, LA and established himself as a Celtic artist among the local musical establishment.  He has played, and continues to do so, at various pubs and clubs of Celtic themes from Dallas to Monroe and Corpus Christi to New Orleans.

Bob Jordan - Bob has played authentic Irish and Scottish songs and ballads in the Shreveport area and throughout Louisiana with the Conly’s Irish Band for many years, contributing great guitar and banjo leads as well as additional vocals. Bob’s beautiful tenor voice sings with his whole heart, and he has a long history with folk music in the Tennessee and North Carolina mountains. Bob did instrumentals for John McCutcheon when he recorded "Wind that Shakes the Barley." He also recorded with David Holt in his Brand New Old Time String Band.  Bob has performed at the North Texas Irish Festival, Natchitoches Folk Festival, Red River Revel in Shreveport, Louisiana Folk Fest in Monroe, Mississippi Celtic Fest in Jackson, Yukon Celtic Fest in Oklahoma and 7 Nations Fest in New Orleans, the 2008 Four Winds Celtic Music Fest, and many others.

Jed Marum Band - Jed is known as a gifted singer, a unique and talented player and an accomplished songwriter, and is also the Number One Folk Music artist for 2009. He is a warm and comfortable performer with a story to tell and a gift for the telling.  Jed Marum’s music plays regularly on Folk/Bluegrass and Celtic radio programs around the world; his music is also distributed widely on all the major MP3 services. Throughout the US each year, Jed plays over 150 shows at festival, club and concert venues, including Canada and Mexico in 2007.  Reflected in his song writing and song selection is a keen interest in history and the passing of culture from generation to generation.  Jed performs traditional songs and contemporary songs in musical style that is both Celtic and American, with strong Bluegrass roots.

Curtis Monson - ParaCelt - Unusual and lovely music of many cultures characterizes the harp duo ParaCelt.  Their music includes Paraguayan tunes as well as those of English, French, Irish, Scots, and Welsh origins.   Musicians Evelyn Stone on Celtic harp and Judith Romero on Paraguayan harp are frequent performers throughout Texas at various renaissance faires and Celtic festivals (Four Winds Faire, Scarborough Faire, the Celtic Heritage Festival, and the North Texas Irish Festival), and their recordings are played often on the Dallas radio station, WRR Classical 101.1 FM.  Their instruments are smaller than the full-sized harp, and have been utilized in folk music traditions for hundreds of years.

WillowMusicians Betty Waddoups and Merrilou Wilder are the magical duo of Willow.  Betty Waddoups, formerly of the Conlys Irish Band, plays the accordion, tin whistles, flute, bass guitar, and more, as well as doing lead and harmony vocals. Betty has a remarkable ability to carry a great lead on songs that she has heard for the first time. Betty has also played in a folk-pop band known as Shakey Ground at the Celtic Crossing Irish Pub, where the Conlys also perform. With a deep love of reels, jigs, and folk music, Merrilou has been playing the guitar and singing for 44 years and is proud to claim her Scotch-Irish roots.  For two years, Merrilou was the guitarist for Dragon’s Dream, a local group that performed well-loved folk songs at the Four Winds Renaissance Faire.  Betty and Merrilou then combined their talents and formed Willow.  Together, with Betty’s various musical talents and vocals, rounded out by Merrilou’s guitar and voice, they make a happy musical mix of folk, Celtic, Renaissance, and Americana.  Willow has performed at Four Winds Renaissance Faire and other local events and venues since 2004.
